Parliament: A carbon tax introduced to penalize the most polluting vehicles
Soon a new law will be presented providing for the imposition of excise taxes on every ounce of carbon emitted by vehicles per kilometer, based on a threshold. The least polluting vehicles will receive a rebate of excise duties exist.

“D’ici peu, les petits showrooms qui importent des voitures de seconde main devront fermer boutique. Raison évoquée : ils ne peuvent plus concurrencer les grands. Ainsi, les petits importateurs ne peuvent produire une garantie bancaire de Rs 100 000 pour chaque voiture qu’ils importent. C’est sûr qu’ils sont appelés à disparaître. Les gens ont fini par causer une psychose et ne veulent plus de voitures japonaises.” C’est ce qu’a déclaré Zaïd Ameer, président de la ‘Dealers of Imported Vehicles Association’ (DIVA) au Matinal.

Des accidents fatals font cinq morts en une semaine
Le nombre de victimes sur nos routes ne cesse de grandir. Durant cette semaine, pas moins de cinq personnes ont trouvé la mort. Malgré toutes les mesures prises pour renforcer la sécurité des Mauriciens, deux personnes, circulant à motos à Terre-Rouge et Anse-Jonchée, ont été tuées. Cela fait suite aux deux accidents fatals enregistrés récemment à Vallée-des-Prêtres et Plaine-des-Papayes.
