Manipulation took place in hundreds of accounts of the Municipality of Port Louis and major inconsistencies noted. The Lord Mayor Mahmad Kodaboccus ordered an investigation.

Ail : l’ACIM crie au scandale
L’Association des Consommateurs de l’île Maurice (ACIM) demande une enquête approfondie sur l’ail distribué par l’Agricultural Marketing Board (AMB).Vendredi, Jayen Chellum, porte-parole de l’ACIM, a expliqué que les résultats des recherches menées indiquent que le prix FOB de ce condiment sur le marché mondial, principalement en Chine et en Inde, varie entre $100 et $ 400 la tonne. Ajoutés à cela les divers frais incluant la marge de profit pratiquée par l’AMB (50 %), l’ail devrait se vendre entre Rs 6 et Rs 15 le kg au lieu de Rs 160 le kg sur le marché local.

Échec scolaire : pas une fatalité
Le taux d’échec au niveau académique n’est guère réjouissant. Néanmoins, les autorités tentent de trouver des moyens pour encourager à faire mieux. N’empêche que le taux de chômage a connu une petite hausse, passant de 7,8% en 2010 à 7,9% en 2011. Le nombre de chômeurs s’élève à 46 000, avec plus de 26 000 femmes.

Jerome Tennant was a Mauritian professional cyclist who died today evening during a hit and run accident on the Midlands highway. (Missed the accident news, check it here).
