Le ‘Lychas serratus’, une espèce de scorpion que les scientifiques et autres chercheurs croyaient disparue depuis près de 150 ans, a été redécouvert au Coin de Mire en marge du ‘Reptile Restoration Project on the Northern Islands’. Ce projet est dirigé par l’équipe de techniciens du Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (DWCT), de la Mauritian Wildlife Foundation et du National Parks and Conservation Service (NPCS).

La chasse nocturne, l’utilisation de fusils capables de tirer plusieurs coups successivement et l’utilisation de pièges pour capturer des animaux seront interdites. C’est ce que préconise le Native Terrestrial Biodiversity and National Parks Bill qui sera bientôt présenté à l’Assemblée nationale. Avec ce projet de loi, les chasseurs ne seront pas autorisés à utiliser des appâts, des explosifs, des armes empoisonnées, des pièges et des missiles contenant un détonateur.
