Japanese emperor extends hospital stay
TOKYO (AFP)Japan's Emperor Akihito is to remain in hospital, the palace said Monday, extending his treatment for bronchitis into a second week.The 77-year-old's temperature rose over the weekend and his cough continued, the Imperial Household Agency said."It has been decided that hospitalisation is to continue for a little longer," a statement said.The decision will force Akihito to miss a welcome ceremony for the newlywed royal couple from Bhutan, who will visit Japan this week.It will be the first time Akihito has missed a meeting with a state guest in more than two decades on the throne.Akihito was admitted to the …
